Pick up 의 활용법(Feat. 구슬쌤)

 

1. 데리러 오다
What time should I pick you up?
몇시에 데리러 오면 될까?

상대가 날 데리러 와줬을 때 기본 매너 표현
Thanks for picking me up.
데리러 와줘서 고마워.

< 특히 먼길을 와준 상대에겐>
Thanks for coming all this way, Vivian.

You were supposed to pick me up at 3.
원래 3시에 데리러 오기로 했잖아.

 

 

2. Pick up the pace
속도를 내다.

We're gonna have to pick up the pace.
좀 더 빨리 진행해야 할 것 같아요.

 

 

3. 회복/ 개선되다.
to recover or increase speed, vigor, or activity : improve.

Things are finally picking up.
드디어 상황이 나아지고 있어.

It went viral, and all of a sudden sales started to pick up.
< SNS 에서 입소문이 나며 매출 회복>

 

 

4. (중단된 상황으로 돌아가) 계속하다/ 다시 시작하다.
to start something again, from the point where you stopped.

Let's pick this up after lunch.
점심먹고 나서 계속하자.

We'll reconvene after lunch. (Let's reconvene after lunch)
점심먹고 다시 모이자.

Let's pick up where we left off.
아까/ 저번에 했던 부분부터 이어서 계속하죠.

I'll try to pick up where Irene left off.
Irene 이 지난번에 했던 부분부터 이어서 계속 해볼게요.

 

 

5. 간단히 사오다. (오다 주웠다 느낌)
to buy something cheaply

I picked you up some coffee.
너줄려고 커피좀 사왔어.

I picked you up some soup from a place I know.
아는 곳에서 간단히 스프좀 사왔어요.

Got you a little pick-me-up, Sunny.
이거 먹고 힘내        * Pick-me-up : 기운차리게 해주는것

 

 

6. 전화 받다.
to answer the phone.

Just pick up th phone. Call her.
그냥 전화기를 들고 그녀에게 전화해.

Why didn't you pick up your phone?
왜 전화 안받았어? (추궁하는 느낌.)

I've been trying to reach you all day.
하루종일 연락했는데 안되더라. ( 부드럽게 순화)

 

 

7. 습관/ 재주 등을 들이게 되다. 익히게 되다.
to learn a new skill or start a habit without intending to

I've just picked up a few words here and there.
여기저기서 단어 몇개 주워 들었어.

You'll pick it up pretty quickly.
곧 어떻게 하는지 익히게 될거야.

 

 

8. 신호를 알아차리다/ 잡다.
(of a piece of electrical equipment) to receive a signal.

I'm pretty good at picking up signals.
난 눈치가 빨라. (신호를 잘 알아차려, 척하면 척이야)
