부드러운 영어의 시작 기본 틀 3가지 (Feat. 구슬쌤) - one of ~, It's not place to say, Is it okay if ~

 

1. one of 복수명사 : ~중 하나

In Southeast Asia, one of the most important issues is deforestation.
Southeast Asia에서 가장 중요한 issue 중의 하나는 산림 벌채입니다.
 *deforestation: 산림 벌채

<물론 확정 지어 말할 땐 one of ~를 빼세요>
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
아침이 하루 식사 중 가장 중요하죠.

<나도 거기 좋아하는데> 맞장구칠 때
That's one of my favorite restaurants, too.  *too 대신 as well을 써도 됨

Il Forno is one of my favorite restaurants, too.
Il Forno는 저도 가장 좋아하는 식당 중의 하나예요.

저도 그 챕터 정말 좋아해요.

favorite보다 좋아하는 정도를 강조한 all-time favorite

go-to vs. favorite
--go-to: used to describe the best person, thing, or place for a particular purpose or need
즐겨 찾는 거지 가장 좋아한다는 보장은 없음

 

<내가 자주 즐겨 마시는 음료를 사 왔을 때>
That's actually my go-to

My go-to place for lunch and dinner.
점심, 저녁 먹으러 자주 찾는 곳이죠.
It's always good and it's always packed.
항상 맛있고 손님이 많아요.

<도움, 조언, 정보 등이 필요할 때 찾아가는 사람>

She was my go-to person for advice.
그녀는 제가 조언이 필요할 때 자주 찾아가는 사람이에요

2. Is it okay if ~ : (상대에게 허락/양해를 구할 때) ~ 해도 괜찮을까요?

Is it okay if I leave early from work today?
오늘 회사에서 조금 일찍 나가도 괜찮을까요?

Is it okay if I leave a little early today?
오늘 좀 일찍 가봐도 될까요?

Is it okay if I take one? 제가 하나 가져가도 괜찮을까요?
*can I ~ 보다 더 상대의 허락을 받는 느낌

A : Is it okay if I take one?
B : Of course. Please help yourself. 그럼요. 마음껏/편히 가져가세요.

There's coffee and tea outside. Please help yourself.
밖에 커피와 차가 있으니 마음껏 드세요.

미안하니 눈치 보며 한 두 개 가져갈 때
Don't be shy. You can take more than one.

By all means. 그럼요/ 얼마든지요.

Is it okay if I steal Dan for a second?
Dan 좀 잠깐 데려가도 괜찮을까요?

잠깐 시간 괜찮아요?

괜찮으면 나이를 물어봐도 될까요?

<미팅 중 적고 싶은 내용이 있을 때>

<뭔가 빠지거나 하고 싶지 않을 때>

3. It's not place to say. 제가 (끼어들어서/나서서) 뭐라고 얘기할 상황이 아니죠.
--not have the right to do something, for example to criticize somebody, suggest something.

A : So, you are not gonna say anything? 그래서 당신은 아무 얘기 안 할 거군요.
B : It's not my place. 제가 끼어들 자리가 아닌걸요.

It's not my place to tell her what to do.
제가 그녀에게 이래라저래라 얘기할 입장이 아니죠.

It's not my place to tell you how to do your job.
네 일을 이렇게 해라 저렇게 해라 내가 나서서 말할 입장이 아니지.

You should ask Mr. Carson, my lady. Mr. Carson에게 물어보세요.
It's not my place to tell. 제가 나서서 말씀드릴 입장이 아니라서요.

It's not my place to judge.
제가 판단할 입장이 아니죠.

That is her choice, and it is not my place to judge.
그건 그녀의 선택이지 제가 나서서 판단/비판할 자리가 아니잖아요.
