reluctant & hesitant 뉘앙스 차이, 쉽게쓰는법 (Feat. 구슬쌤)

1. hesitant : 주저하는, 망설이는, 머뭇거리는
-- not doing something immediately or quickly because you are nervous or not certain.
(걱정되거나 의구심이 드는 부분이 있어 잠시 pause)
Origin *라틴어 haesitant : being undecided

2. reluctant : 꺼리는, 마지못한, 주저하는
-- not willing to do something and therefore slow to do it.
(딱히 내키지 않거나 거부감이 들어 꺼리거나 주저할 때)
Origin *라틴어 reluctant : strugging against / unwilling

A : And I'd like you to come. 같이 가 주시면 좋겠어요.
B : I'm reluctant. 글쎄요.

 

hesitant vs. reluctant
I'm hesitant to get a flu shot.= 주사를 맞는게 긴장되고 이게 잘 하는 행동인지 확실치 않을 때
I'm reluctant to get a flu shot. = 주사를 딱히 맞고 싶지 않음 / 꺼려짐 (좀 더 부정적인 느낌)
